This release presents the provisional results of Census 2022. It contains information on the population by basic demographic characteristics such as age , sex, nationality population distribution and household size. References will be made to Resident Population, resident Maldivian population and Foreign population at Republic, Male’ and Atolls level and refer to definitions used in the tables and summary write up

| Resident Population | Population who have been living in Maldives for more than one year or intends to live in Maldives for 1 year or more. This includes Resident Maldivian Population and Resident Foreign Population. |
| Resident Maldivian | Maldivian who have been living in Maldives for more than one year or intends to live in Maldives for 1 year or more. Maldivians who are permanently living abroad is excluded from here |
| Resident Foreigners | Foreigners who have living in Maldives for more than one year or intends to live in Maldives for 1 year or more. Foreigners such as tourists, short term stay is excluded from this count. |
| Place of enumeration | Place of enumeration refers to where the resident population was present at census reference time. Census reference time was 13 September 2022 00:00hrs (or 12th September mid-night). This does not reflect the usual residence of the resident population |
| Maale | Includes the 4 wards of Maale (Henveiru, Galolhu, Machchangoalhi, Maafannu), Hulumaale, Villimaale, and K.Hulhule with harbour of these areas |
| Atolls | Includes administrative islands and non-administrative islands |
| Administrative islands (Admin islands) | These are islands with islands/city councils. |
| Non- administrative islands (Non-admin islands) | Includes resorts and industrial islands and other islands. Industrial islands and other islands includes resorts under development, islands leased out for agricultural , fisheries purpose, etc. These islands are included if anyone lives and sleep there. It also includes Thilafushi and Gulheefalhu |
| South Thiladhunmathi (HDh Atoll) | The count of population in South Thiladhunmathi is including Kulhudhuffushi City |
| Maale Atoll (K) | Maale Atoll includes only administrative islands within the atoll and excludes Maale. |
